Development Environment in a virtual machine
Up to Software
Hi Sir,
It is possible to provide a development environment, in an opensource O/S, say Ubuntu/CentOS , with the JDK/Git etc all pre-configured.
The environment published as an virtualised image file, as KVM or Vmware etc.
I believed this will be very helpful for new developer to get started.
I understand your concern. There are a couple of issues:
- people who work for commercial companies (at least the insurance companies I am aware of) are usually not allowed to set-up their own virtual environments
- PillarOne uses the ULC (ultra-light client) product. This product is not open source. User licences are anyway free. But developer licences are commercial. We have an agreement with the company that any person who wants to develop on PillarOne gets a developer licences for free, but has to apply for it.
As a consequence, we cannot provide a virtualized image which is fully functional, as we are not allowed to include that licence key.
My preference thus is to learn more about where you ran into problems setting things up and then improve the documentation accordingly.
