Any suggestions for a suitable "Baby's first model"?

Posted by Zia Akbar at April 12. 2010

Hello,

As a beginning PillarOne user, and also not yet having enough experience in the field, I am interested in what would be a suitable model to start familiarizing oneself with RiskAnalytics (the latest version, for example). PODRA is suggested by the manual, and certainly seems to be an interesting and relevant example, but a simpler model than PODRA may be better to start with.

Stefan or Markus, what would you suggest? Thank you in advance.

Zia

Hi

The PODRA model is a good starting point for a user because the model offers plenty of data driven configuration options. Hence, the model is more like a modeling template which can be turned into a model by simply adding appropriate parameters - data driven modeling. This flexibility is easy to understand for users, e.g. the user adds the parameters for a number of claims generators and the model template will take care of instantiating and wiring those claims generators.

But this flexibility requires more complex components - so called dynamic components. So, from a developers perspective this is not the place where you want to understand how models are build by wiring components.

I suggest that you look at the CapitalEagle model. This model does not contain dynamic components.  Once you understand the components concept, then turn towards understanding how they are wired, i.e. how a components output is sent to an input channel of another component.
