PillarOne software

On which operating system can I run PillarOne software?

PillarOne software runs on both Windows and Linux/Unix. The client-server version runs as well on mixed set-ups; the most prominent is that the client runs Windows and the server runs Linux.

What are the minimal requirements for your software to run?

Any reasonable recent notebook, PC or server can run PillarOne software, as long as a Java Runtime Environment (version 5 or higher) is installed.

PillarOne products can be used in a standalone or client-server mode and therefore there are two answers:

  • standalone mode: 2 GB memory, 200 MB disk space, possibility to install a Java Runtime Environment with at least version 5. Our installers include already a suitable Java Runtime Environment. The runtime for simulations in RiskAnalytics depends not only on the CPU speed. The results can be large and are stored in a database on disk. Hence, the performance also depends on the performance of the harddisks.
  • client-server mode: Java Runtime Environment 5 or higher has to be installed on the client. Furthermore JavaScript has to be enabled in the browser. The server needs at least 2 GB of dedicated memory. The effective amount of required memory depends on the number of concurrent sessions. In order to run the software on the server a Java webservlet container (e.g. Apache Tomcat) and any database product (MySQL, MS SQL, ...) is required.

Which flavor of PillarOne software is right for me?

The PillarOne applications can run in different modes:

  • Use the standalone version if you want to work on a laptop or PC without being connected to a server.
  • Use the client-server version if you want to use our applications in a multi-user environment with the business logic and the database running on servers.   The client-server version has a thin client which does not require installing the PillarOne applications on the client.

Both flavors have the same look and feel.

Have you written these applications from scratch?

No, our philosophy is best characterized by the slogan "standing on giants shoulders". PillarOne applications are built on top of professional, industry-strength frameworks and components. We mold and configure them into a consistent application base on top of which we implement the business logic. On PillarOne.org you can find documents which explain our application stack and the technologies we use.
