PillarOne in a nutshell.

We often use the slogan “Modelling and More” to highlight all abilities of PillarOne. In a nutshell (should be a coconut), PillarOne can be characterized by:

  • Transparency is a major value in risk management: Everything you get from PillarOne (IT interfaces, openly available business logic components) can be verified, used and if necessary extended.

  • PillarOne offers on openly extendable business logic achieved by a strong, yet open code. We have not come across any restriction in a broad range of implementations.

  • IT Standards are virtually nonexistent in most actuarial tools. PillarOne is a welcome exception since it is built on top of broadly accepted Java enterprise software components for database handling, client server communication, security, etc. In short, PillarOne is an enterprise application.

  • Flexibility is required for a platform to cover a broad spectrum of applications. PillarOne makes no assumptions about the time resolution of models, the level of detail to be modeled, or which output data will be collected. As a result, PillarOne can be used for a broad spectrum of quantitative insurance models, including risk capital or Solvency II models, reinsurance optimization, portfolio or deal valuations, profit testing … to mention a few.

In addition, PillarOne offers a number of advanced efficiency features such as:

  • Compare: The user can compare the key figures of two or more simulation results and/or their parameterizations, including heatmap representations and deviation reports by only one single click.

  • Compare Results: Granular iteration data can be analyzed in the iteration viewer. The user can compare results graphically; smoothing algorithms are provided.

  • Seamless clipboard integration: Copy-pasting even from a local spreadsheet to the ultra-light client which then gets pushed to the database on the server and vice versa.

  • Undockable tabs: Within the application window, multiple tabs can be open simultaneously, but only one tab is active at a time. Undockable tabs allow users to drag interesting tabs to another window or screen thus enabling the user to view and interact with multiple aspects of the modeling domain in parallel.

  • Validators and comments:
Validators as predefined or custom “callback” functions implementing business-specific “rules” can be written and easily pushed/deployed to adhere to enterprise policies or to enforce data integrity at the time of data entry.

  • Batch runs: Instead of running a set of simulations serially, a simulation can be put to the stack of a batch. All added simulations are afterwards run one after another automatically. In case of an error, the batch continues with the other error-free simulations.

  • Custom result aggregations and views give the user flexibility on how the simulation results can be aggregated and presented. Examples of such views are a financial view per line of business with a drill-down per reinsurance contract, or a drill-down of the total claims per line of business into the different perils.

  • Safely deleting sub-components: A user cannot delete a sub-component which is still referred to by another component. The warning message informs about which components still use the sub-component the user intended to delete.
